Working with Masks on the Photoshop Introduction Course...

One of the most beatiful and without doubt popular techniques currently being worked on during our Photoshop Training is colour splash.  Where the background fades away to grey scale black and white and a patch of vibrant colour remains.

We teach the recommended Photoshop workflow on the courses so after duplicating the layer we use a mask to omit an area of the image and paint the area.  Once the selection is complete, which using this technique it usually is we then use an adjustment layer to apply the black and white effects.  By working like this we have a lot of control working with the colour sliders to get the right atmospheric control over the blacks and whites in the picture
